Nigeria’s chief of army staff Ibrahim Attahiru dies in plane crash
Military sources has revealed that Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Ibrahim Attahiru had died today 21st May 2021 in a plane crash in Kaduna.
On January 26, Mr. Attahiru was appointed Chief of Army Staff, succeeding Tukur Buratai. He was 54 years old at the time.
Peoples Gazette reported that Mr Attahiru died alongside other military chiefs on the same flight. The president has already been informed of the situation.
The Nigerian Air Force has now released a statement acknowledging the crash but refusing to reveal the identities of those on board.
“An air crash involving a Nigerian Air Force aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” spokesman Edward Gabkwet said.
The plane was the third military jet operated by the Nigerian Air Force to crash this year.
