Nigeria’s secessionists’ leader arrested, deported back to country to face trial

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed separatist group the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was detained on Tuesday and is being held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, awaiting trial, according to a spokesperson for the justice minister.

Kanu’s location have been unclear since he failed to appear in court after being granted bail in prior cases. In March of this year, a judge issued an arrest warrant for him.

The minister’s spokesman stated that “He has been arrested and taken to Abuja High Court today, and the court adjourned until July 27,”
