Guinea Receives Russian Covid19 Vaccine
One of Africa’s first leaders to receive the coronavirus vaccine was Guinean President Alpha Conde.
The 82-year-old was injected on Friday with a dose of the Russian sputnik jab.
He took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to ensuring that, in order to curb the spread of the virus, Guineans obtain wide vaccination coverage.
The Russian vaccination campaign was initiated on an experimental basis on 30 December.
The first to receive the vaccine was Defense Minister Mohamed Diané, a scientist by training.
Guinea also learned this week that the Covax program, which provides all countries with COVID-19 vaccines, will provide the promised doses sooner than anticipated.
WHO and UNICEF now anticipate delivery within the next two to three weeks, after first talking about the end of the second quarter.
Guinea has recorded 14,065 COVID-19 confirmed cases and 81 deaths
