Panama Discovers First Case of South Africa Covid-19 Variant

Panama has registered the first case of a form of COVID-19 matching a strain of the virus found in South Africa, the health ministry of the Central American country said on Friday.

In a 40-year-old native of Zimbabwe who entered Panama from South Africa on Jan. 5, the variant was identified. The person did not exhibit symptoms and was alone, the ministry said in a statement.
